Cultivating Serenity is a blog concerned with advancing peace throughout humanity through techniques such as meditation, mindfulness, peace work, social behavior observations, culture and lifestyle.
It is not a religious blog, but a spiritual blog in the sense that it is focused on the contemplative and the relational aspects of being Human. It is more concerned with our personal perceptions, our story, our values our sense of meaning and our personal power to manifest the life which we prefer.
It is an intersection of modern understandings of the many ancient Perennial Human Philosophies throughout the ages. In the wisdom and writings presented here you will find a resonance with the mystical paths of many religions, the Gnostics, Taoism, Zen, Shamanism and Toltecism.
It intends to explore the values of the greater human community, to build a world that is as good as it can be for ourselves and for our loved ones and for all of humanity and for the sake of the natural world that surrounds us and sustains us.
The Cultivating Serenity has its roots in a modern understanding of the ancient tradition of Pan Humanism which embraces both Spiritual Humanism and Secular Humanism.
The term "Humanism" is derived from the Latin word humanitas, for which the Encyclopedia Britannica offers an eloquent and intriguing definition. Humanitas meant the development of human virtue in all its forms to the fullest extent. The term thus implied not only such qualities as are associated with the modern word "humanity" — Love, understanding, benevolence, compassion, and mercy — but also such more aggressive characteristics as fortitude, judgment, prudence, eloquence, and even bravery and honor.
